Turning the Other Cheek vs. Not Throwing Pearls to Swine


One of the most debated topics in Christianity is the perceived contradiction in scripture regarding forgiveness and setting boundaries. The Bible teaches us:

“But I say to you, do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” — Matthew 5:39

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” — Matthew 7:6


At first glance, these verses seem to contradict each other. One calls for absolute humility, while the other warns against wasting wisdom on those who refuse to listen. But God’s Word never contradicts itself—it complements itself.


Forgiveness does not mean allowing abuse to continue. Jesus calls us to be kind, patient, and forgiving, but He also calls us to walk in wisdom. Turning the other cheek is about letting go of personal revenge, while not throwing pearls to swine is about recognizing when someone’s heart is hardened against truth.


A Personal Story of Forgiveness and Faith


I know the power of forgiveness firsthand. There have been moments in my life where betrayal, rejection, and mistreatment could have hardened my heart. I have experienced deep wounds from those I loved, and the enemy tried to convince me to hold onto bitterness. But Jesus showed me that forgiveness is not about excusing wrongdoing—it is about setting myself free.


I have prayed for those who hurt me, even when I didn’t feel like it. I have chosen to release pain into God’s hands, trusting that He will bring justice in His perfect way and timing. And let me tell you—when you forgive, a weight lifts from your soul. You step into the peace of God, no longer controlled by the actions of others.


If you are struggling with forgiveness, remember: Jesus forgave us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). If He could forgive those who nailed Him to the cross, we can forgive those who have wronged us, even if they never apologize.


Keanu Reeves, A Manager’s Redemption & The Heart of Change


I recently watched a video about Keanu Reeves secretly witnessing workplace discrimination against a Black employee. The injustice of it hit me deeply. But what stood out to me the most was a thought I had after watching it—what if the fired manager actually repented?


Imagine if that manager humbled himself before God, realizing his prejudice and uncaring nature were sinful. Imagine if he sought forgiveness, not only from God but from the young man he mistreated. What if he walked back into that restaurant with true remorse, spoke to Keanu Reeves without ego, and sincerely apologized?


That would be a powerful testimony—because true change comes from within, from God transforming a person’s heart. Forgiveness opens the door for redemption, and redemption brings new life.


Does God Want Us to Prosper?


Some people believe that following Jesus means living in poverty, while others think faith guarantees wealth. But what does the Bible really say?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” — Philippians 4:8


God’s plan is for us to prosper—not just financially, but in peace, joy, wisdom, and relationships. However, prosperity is not about material wealth alone. The world tells us success is measured in money, but God’s riches are far greater.


Many prosperity preachers focus only on financial blessings, but we must remember that true prosperity includes:

Peace in the midst of trials

Health (because health is wealth)

Mental & Physical Well-being

Restful sleep (Psalm 127:2)

Harmonious relationships


Yes, God provides for His children, and financial blessings can be part of that. But God is not a bank machine. He blesses according to His will, and the greatest blessing is a relationship with Him.


The Locusts & God’s Restoration


The Bible speaks of how God restores what has been lost:

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” — Joel 2:25


Sometimes, we lose things—jobs, money, relationships. But if we trust in Him, God can restore in ways we never expected. That restoration might not always come in the form of money. It might come as healing, opportunities, or spiritual growth.


God’s love is not measured by our bank account—it is measured by His presence in our lives.


A Holy Spirit Poem


Forgiveness flows where love abides,

A river of mercy, deep and wide.

Not for the one who caused the pain,

But for the soul that breaks the chain.


Prosperity isn’t gold or land,

But resting safe in Jesus’ hand.

Where peace and purpose bloom anew,

And all God’s promises hold true.


So walk in faith, let go of fear,

God’s perfect plan is always near.

Not for a world that fades away,

But for the light of endless day.


A Prayer of Restoration & True Prosperity


Heavenly Father,


Thank You for Your Word that guides us in wisdom. Help us to walk in both forgiveness and discernment. Teach us to turn the other cheek when needed, but also to guard our hearts from those who refuse to hear Your truth.


Lord, I pray for those who have hurt me. I release them into Your hands. I will not let bitterness take root in my heart, because I know You are the ultimate Judge and Redeemer.


I trust in Your plan for my life. I declare that my prosperity is not defined by material wealth but by the abundance of Your presence. Restore what the locusts have eaten, and let my life be a testimony of Your goodness.


I seal this prayer and confirm it as true by the sacred Name of Jesus and the Blood of the Lamb.

The 10 Commandments Reminder

Here are the Ten Commandments, as listed in the Bible (specifically from the Book of Exodus 20:1-17, and also found in Deuteronomy 5:4-21):

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

  2. You shall not make for yourselves a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above or on the earth below. Remember money and stuff is only stuff, not God. When you leave this earthly life it gets left behind.

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  5. Honor your father and mother. Don't take on their divine lessons God presents them with. They may have been a pain in the butt sometimes but remember it works both ways! They are part of our "Faith Walk" and we are part of theirs. We can't save them, only God can, however healthy boundaries are self loving. Sometimes we have to love them from a distance and accept their apology they never gave us. If you need a prayer to help you forgive and follow this commandment.   6. You shall not murder. This includes lies and slander where you destroy someone's reputation.

  7. You shall not commit adultery. This includes looking at another that you aren't married to in any inappropriate way.

  8. You shall not steal. If you steal anything, no matter how small, you are giving out the vibration to Abba Father of lack and that's what you will get more of!

  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, wife, or possessions. 

     

Let us walk in gratitude, faith, and reverence for all that God has given us—both today and in the legacy of those who came before. May our hearts be filled with thankfulness for every moment, knowing that every blessing, big or small, is a reminder of His everlasting love.
